Sunbrella® Fabric Care & Stain Removal Guide

Some OVE Decors outdoor furniture collections feature Sunbrella® fabric, a premium performance fabric engineered for outdoor use. Sunbrella fabrics are durable, colorfast, and designed to withstand the elements, while remaining easy to clean and maintain.

For best results, spills and stains should be cleaned as soon as they occur. Set-in stains may require repeated treatment or professional cleaning. After cleaning, always rinse thoroughly and allow the fabric to air dry

General Cleaning Guidelines

Basic Cleaning Solution (used for most stains):

  • 1 teaspoon (4 ml) dishwashing liquid

  • 1 cup (250 ml) water

Apply using a soft brush or sponge. Rinse thoroughly and air dry

For larger cleaning projects, multiply the solution proportions as needed


Stain Removal by Category

Food & Beverage Stains

(BBQ sauce, beer, berries, coffee, cola, tea, wine, ketchup, mustard)

  • Clean using the basic dish soap and water solution.

  • For remaining discoloration, a fabric stain remover formulated for Sunbrella fabrics may be used


Biological Stains

(Bird droppings, urine, vomit)

Solution:

  • 1 teaspoon dishwashing liquid

  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar

  • 1 cup water

Clean gently, rinse thoroughly, and allow to air dry


Blood

Solution:

  • 1 teaspoon dishwashing liquid

  • 1 teaspoon hydrogen peroxide

  • 1 cup water

Rinse thoroughly. For lingering discoloration, a spot and stain remover designed for Sunbrella fabrics may be used


Oil-Based & Grease Stains

(Butter, grease, mayonnaise, motor oil, oil, paint, salad dressing, sunscreen, tomato products)

Steps:

  1. For fresh stains, apply cornstarch as an absorbent.

  2. Remove excess using a straight edge.

  3. Clean remaining residue with dish soap and water.

  4. Follow with a strong degreaser if necessary


Charcoal

  1. Vacuum to remove excess debris.

  2. Treat with isopropyl alcohol.

  3. Clean with dish soap and water


Chewing Gum & Crayon

  • Treat with isopropyl alcohol.

  • Clean with dish soap and water afterward


Chocolate

  • Clean using dish soap and water.

  • If oil residue remains, use an oil-based stain remover


Dye Transfer

Solution:

  • 1 teaspoon dishwashing liquid

  • 1 teaspoon isopropyl alcohol or bleach

  • 1 cup water

For stubborn stains, a mold and mildew stain remover may be required


Ink & Nail Polish

  1. Treat with a volatile solvent such as 100% acetone.

  2. Clean with dish soap and water.

  3. For remaining discoloration, use a spot and stain remover


Lipstick & Cosmetics

  • Clean with dish soap and water.

  • Follow with a strong degreaser if needed


Mildew & Mold

Solution:

  • 1 teaspoon dishwashing liquid

  • 1 teaspoon bleach

  • 1 cup water

For severe mildew, a stronger bleach concentration may be necessary. Rinse thoroughly and allow to air dry


Pencil

  • Vacuum to remove residue.

  • Clean with dish soap and water


Rust

  • Treat with a rust remover such as CLR®.

  • Rinse thoroughly


Shoe Polish (Liquid or Wax)

  1. Apply cornstarch to absorb residue.

  2. Remove excess with a straight edge.

  3. Clean with dish soap and water.

  4. For wax polish, cover with a towel and use a heated iron to lift debris before cleaning


Tree Sap

  1. Treat with a solvent such as Murphy® Oil Soap, turpentine, or 100% acetone.

  2. Remove as much sap as possible.

  3. Clean with dish soap and water.

  4. Rinse thoroughly to remove solvent residue


Candle Wax

  1. Cover stain with a towel.

  2. Apply a heated iron to lift wax.

  3. Clean with dish soap and water.

  4. Follow with an oil-based stain remover if needed


Important Notes

  • Always follow instructions printed on cleaning product packaging

  • Use only recommended cleaning solutions

  • Test any cleaning method on an inconspicuous area first

  • Rinse fabric thoroughly after cleaning and allow to air dry completely
