Shower Base Installation

Shower Base Installation

Overview

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing an alcove shower base. While shower bases come in different sizes, the installation process is the same. Always follow local building and plumbing codes, and use appropriate safety equipment.

Safety Precautions

  • Wear safety glasses and gloves during handling and installation.

  • Inspect all parts for damage before starting.

  • Handle tempered glass carefully if included in your enclosure package.

  • Do not modify or cut glass parts.

  • Ensure the installation surface is level and can support the base and occupant.

  • Installation requires two people.

Required Tools (Not Supplied)

  • Pencil, measuring tape, level, screwdriver, cutter, saw

  • Drill with 1/8” (3 mm) bit, hole saw drill bit

  • Wood shims, cement, silicone, polyethylene sheet (1/16”)

Parts Supplied

  • Shower base with drain cover

  • Tiling flanges (1 long, 2 short)

  • Screws (ST4x20 mm)

Installation Steps

1. Assemble Tiling Flanges

  • Identify the back wall side of the base.

  • Install the long flange on this side using screws and a bead of silicone under the lip.

  • Install the two short flanges on the remaining sides in the same way

2. Prepare the Alcove

  • Ensure wall studs are level.

  • Place the shower base on the subfloor and trace its outline with a pencil

3. Drain Preparation

  • Complete waste pipe plumbing before proceeding.

  • A shower drain is not supplied—follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

  • Typically, the drain body must be sealed onto the waste pipe before setting the base.

  • Apply silicone under the strainer body during final assembly to prevent leaks

4. Apply Cement Bed

  • Spread a 1”–1 ½” (25–38 mm) thick cement layer inside the traced outline.

  • Place a thin polyethylene sheet on top to prevent the base from permanently bonding.

  • Position the base, press down firmly, and ensure it is level

5. Secure the Base

  • Use wood shims to fill any gap between the flange and studs.

  • Drill guide holes and fasten the base to each stud (screws not supplied).

  • Cut off excess shim material

  • Allow cement to dry for 24 hours before proceeding

6. Install Drywall

  • Measure and cut drywall panels to fit plumbing and alcove dimensions.

  • Attach drywall panels to studs using drywall screws, ensuring panels rest on top of the shower base flange.

  • Cut openings for plumbing with a hole saw

7. Tile and Seal

  • Install tiles on the wall over the drywall.

  • Seal all joints and seams with silicone.

  • Continue with the shower enclosure installation manual for the next steps
