Adjusting Hot Water Flow on an Athena Faucet
Adjusting the hot water flow in the cartridge for an Athena Faucet is a simple process that can be accomplished by following a few steps. This guide will provide you with clear instructions for adjusting the hot water flow for optimal usage. Before beginning, remember to turn off the main waterline to the faucet to prevent any water flow during the procedure.
Step-by-Step Guide:
- Unscrew the long handle on the temperature control knob to loosen the set screw located inside.
- Once the knob is loose, remove the handle from the cartridge top. You may need to use a 2.5mm allen key to loosen the set screw.
- Use a plumbers wrench to unscrew the brass nut that secures the cartridge. Remove the brass nut completely.
- With the brass nut removed, pull out the thermo cartridge from the faucet.
- To remove the cartridge from the chamber, gently wiggle it from side to side while pulling. If needed, use a wrench or pliers for added leverage. 5.1. Ensure that the blue gasket is not left behind in the chamber and place it back onto the cartridge.
Align the two nibs located at the top and bottom of the cartridge with the designated pins inside the chamber.
Adjusting Hot Water Flow:
1. Remove the red scolding ring from the cartridge.
To increase hot water flow, turn the knob towards the left.
2. Using the Athena handle or pliers, turn the brass top counter-clockwise until it stops. This indicates maximum hot water flow. 2.1. Underneath the cartridge, a chamber will allow for maximum hot water flow. 2.2. By turning the knob back towards the right, you can reduce the amount of hot water flow (see provided pictures).
This method allows you to adjust the maximum hot water flow through the faucet.
3. The red scolding ring and white plastic on the cartridge have two inner grooves, with one slightly smaller than the other. 3.1. When reinstalling the red scolding ring, align the small groove on the ring with the small white plastic groove on the cartridge. This prevents any further hot water flow beyond the desired setting.
The red scolding ring insert acts as a hot water safety feature. Removing the insert completely allows for maximum hot water flow but eliminates protection against dangerously hot water.

By following these simple steps, you can easily change the cartridge on an Athena Faucet and adjust the hot water flow to meet your preferences. Remember to turn off the main waterline before starting the cartridge replacement process.
